HMRC have made an urgent announcement that an update will be made over the weekend of 20-21 April 2024 to CDS, affecting the enforcement of completion of Document ID or Document Reason fields.
"An update will be made over the weekend to extend enforcement of completion for document ID or document reason fields as appropriate against certain document codes. If the document ID or document reason is not completed when required as set out in Data Element 2/3 Documents and Other Reference Codes (National) of the Customs Declaration Service (CDS) - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) then the declaration will be rejected. Validation will be extended to the document codes shown below but traders should be ensuring that they are complying with the requirements against all document codes. Any declarations which have been pre-lodged without the appropriate document ID or document reason completed, will need to be amended before the declaration is arrived. Any declarations which are rejected will need to be resubmitted with the appropriate field completed".
