The fully secure 8 hectare (20 acres) Customs Approved container terminal has a capacity of 4,200 TEU serviced by comprehensive handling equipment and supported by computer controlled dispatch handling systems. Depths
- Main channel maintained depth of 9.1 metres, this allows:
- Vessels up to 8.5 metres to enter virtually without restriction
- Vessels up to 10 metres will be tide dependent
- Vessels up to 12 metres plus need high tide for entry
Pilots/Tugs
- Three tugs (70, 42, & 36 tonnes pull) are stationed on the Tyne at 3 hours notice
- Additional tugs (should they be necessary) can be arranged with reasonable notice
- Experienced Pilots available 24/7 at two hours notice
Tides
- Spring Range 4.3m, Neap 2.1m
- Current at mid tide generally 1- 1.5 knots
- Vessels berth either way round at all states of tide.
- Spring low tides occur 1000/1100, Neaps at 1600/1700
